About us

The name Beacon Light comes from a simple idea: one light can spark another, and that light can continue to spread. We want to be a source of support and hope for our clients, knowing that the positive changes made through therapy often extend into families, relationships, and communities.

We’re a growing group practice built around thoughtful, personalized care. As we expand, we’re committed to welcoming therapists who are both clinically skilled and genuinely warm, people who believe therapy should be shaped around each client’s individual needs.

We know finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make the process feel more personal, comfortable, and straightforward from the very beginning.

Andrew Sydney, MA, LCMHC

Owner & Therapist

I’m Andrew Sydney (he/him), a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina, a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina, and the founder of Beacon Light Counseling.

I’m a Boston native who traded the cold for the Carolina sun to raise my family (although I still miss the snow when ski season comes around). I earned my graduate degree from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before making my way south. In the years since, I’ve built a private practice and a trusted referral network throughout the Charlotte region.

My goal for your first session is simple: I want you to leave feeling just a little more hopeful than when you walked in. I work to create a laid-back, judgment-free space where you can be yourself without feeling like you’re under a microscope. Whether you’re sorting through something heavy or simply feeling stuck, this is your space to explore, vent, reflect, and take a breath.

I built Beacon Light to be the kind of place I’d feel good sending someone I care about. Building a group practice allows us to help more people find a therapist who understands their needs and feels like the right fit.

Maddison Hofmann, MSW, LCSWA

Therapist

I’m Maddison Hofmann (she/her), and I work with children, teens, young adults, adults, and families as they navigate anxiety, depression, chronic stress, life transitions, and the times when life simply feels stuck.

I believe therapy works best when it feels like a true collaboration. You don’t need to arrive with all the answers or even know exactly what you want to change. My role is to meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and give you space to slow down, process what you’re carrying, and move toward healing and growth at a pace that feels right for you.

My approach is grounded in person-centered therapy and draws from evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), strengths-based approaches, and play therapy for children. Because no two people come to therapy with the same experiences or needs, I tailor our work to what feels most useful and meaningful to you.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will help you feel safe being yourself and work alongside you through life’s challenges, we may be a good fit. I offer in-person, virtual, and walk-and-talk therapy appointments.
